Moutains of Europe to the Himalayas and s. in India and Africa;
Fragmented distribution;
(1) S. Europe (Mediterranean Basin) to Himalayas.
Winters in n. Africa.
(2) N. Africa e. to Turkey and Israel to s. Russia, Caucasus, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and nw. India.
(3) Nw. Somalia.
(4) Zaire (Ruwenzori Mountains).
(5) Mostly in the highlands of e. and s. Africa from w. and c. Ethiopia, Eritrea, sw. Arabia, ne. Zaire, Uganda, Rwanda, w. and c. Kenya, n. Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Botswana and sw. Angola, Namibia, Zimbabwe and s. Africa.
Ranges to Togo and Gabon.
(6) Namibia.
(7) Madagascar.
(8) Himalayas.
Winters in c. India.
(9) W. peninsular India.
(10) Sri Lanka.
Birds breeding in s. Mali are of uncertain race.
