Australia;
Inland to nw. and ce. Western Australia (Keep River National Park), Northern Territory, South Australia, n. Victoria, New South Wales (Round Hill Nature Reserve) and through c. Queensland to s. Cape York Peninsula. Winters n. to the e. Lesser Sundas, Aru Is. References to this species ranging to New Guinea and the Bismarck Archipelago (New Ireland) may refer to the White-throated Nightjar.
