Range

Africa s. of the Sahara. India to Burma;
Two populations;
(1) Senegambia, s. Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, s. Niger, Cameroon, Gabon, Central African Republic, s. Chad, s. Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea (Red Sea), Somalia, Zaire, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, n. Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Angola and Namibia.
Winters s. to n. Namibia, n. Botswana, Zimbabwe and e. and c. South Africa.
(2) South Africa to e. Botswana, Zimbabwe and s. Zambia.
Winters n. to Ethiopia, Sudan and possibly Chad.
(3) E. Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, s. Tibet to c., s. Burma.
Winters in e. Africa. Migrants have been recorded in e. Zimbabwe, Mozambique and e. South Africa (Natal).
