Range

Europe, c. and s. Asia;
Fragmented distribution in Asia;
(1) W. Europe from the British Isles, s. Scandinavia and wc. Russia (e. to the area of Moscow) s. to s. France, Italy, Balkans, Greece then through e. Turkey, ne. Egypt, ne. Arabia, Near East, Middle East, e. Transcaspia, e. Kazakhstan, w. China, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka.
Populations from Iran w. and European population may also have arisen from introductions.
(2) Burma to e. China and Korea.
A Feral population has become established in Chinese Turkestan.
Introduced in the United States (c. and s. Florida and spread n. at least to Georgia and South Carolina) and Japan where may be of natural origins.
