North Atlantic;
(1) E. Canada from Digges Sound and se. Baffin Is. and along the coasts of Labrador, to se. Quebec, e. Newfoundland, s. New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and ne. United States on Machias Seal Is. and Matinicus Rock in the Gulf of Maine to Greenland e. to Bear Is., Norway, Denmark, Baltic Sea region, ne. Russia (Kola Peninsula, Murmansk and the White Sea).
(2) Iceland, Faroe, Shetland, British Isles e. to Helgoland, Channel Is. and nw. France (Brittany).
Winters in the n. boreal zone s. in the w. Atlantic to New York (Long Island) and in the e. Atlantic to s. Norway, the Baltic and w. Mediterranean.
