Circumpolar in the Holarctic;
(1) Ne. Canada (e. Baffin Is. and e. Ellesmere Is.) e. in Greenland, Iceland, Jan Mayen, Spitsbergen (Svalbard) and Bear Is. to Novaya Zemlya.
Winters s. along Atlantic coast of the United States s. to New Jersey and w. Europe.
(2) Franz Josef Land and e. from Severnaya Zemlya e. to the Barents Sea and Bering Sea (St. Lawrence Is. and Little Diomede Is.).
