Range

Indian Ocean extending w. to the e. Atlantic Ocean and sw. Pacific Ocean;
Fragmented distribution;
(1) N. and e. Africa (s. Mediterranean coasts of Morocco and Libya), Mauritania, Senegambia and Guinea.
Winters off the w. coast of Africa.
(2) Red Sea along the coasts of Sudan, Eritrea Djibouti and Somalia.
Winters in the Indian Ocean s. along the coasts of Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique and e. South Africa (Natal), Madagascar, Comores, Aldabra, Seychelles and Sri Lanka.
(3) Persian Gulf (Abu Dhabi) Indian Ocean coast of Pakistan, Maldives and Laccadives e. to the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi to New Guinea, Aru Is. and n. Australia in c. Western Australia (Carnarvon Harbor and Shark Bay), Northern Terrritory to s. Queensland (on Great Barrier Reed islands including Fraser Island, Lady Elliot Island and Musgrave Island).
Winters in the n. Indian Ocean and sw. Pacific Ocean.
