S. Greenland and Iceland, e. across Arctic Europe on Spitszbergen (Svalbard), Bear Is., Novaya Zemlya, New Siberian Islands and n. Siberia to Chukotski Peninsula and Anadyrland . Aleutians, w. and n. Alaska s. to the Yukon River delta and St. Lawrence Is. and e. across Canada in n. Yukon, n. Mackenzie, Banks Is., Melville Is., Ellesmere Is., Bylot Is. and n. Baffin Is. s. to e. Keewatin, Southampton Is. and Mansel Is., n. Quebec and n. Labrador.
Winters at sea off sw. South America, cw. and sw. Africa.
