Range
Circumpolar in the Holarctic;
S. Greenland, Iceland, Faeroe Is., and Shetland Is., n. British Isles, Spitsbergen (Svalbard), and n. Europe in Scandinavia e. across n. Russia to n. Siberia on the Chukotski Peninsula, Anadyrland, Kamchatka and Commander Is. N. Alaska e. across n. Canada in n. Mackenzie, s. Victoria Is., c. Keewatin, Southampton Is., and s. Baffin Is. s. to Aleutians, Pribilofs, s. Alaska and again across s. Canada in nw. British Columbia, s. Yukon, s. Machenzie and n. Alberta to n. Quebec and Labrador.
Migrant at Hortobagy National Park, Hungary and Aleutians from Alaska across n. Canada.
Winters at sea off the w. coast of c. South America, off the s. Arabia Peninsula and the seas around Maluku and Nusa Tenggara in the Moluccas. Australia (Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and se. South Australia).
