Ne. Siberia and n. North America;
Fragmented distribtuion;
Wrangel Is. and Ayon Is. in ne. Siberia and e. to the Ekvyvatan River and the n. coast of the Chukotshiy Peninsula. N. Alaska (Barrow area) e. in n. Canada from n. Yukon, nw. Mackenzie to the Boothia Peninsula and locally n. on Banks Is., Melville Is., Bathurst Is., Devon Islands and s. on s. Victoria Is., Jenny Lind Is. and King William Is.
Key migration resting areas include the coastal prairies of sc. United States in Texas and Louisiana.
Winters in the pampas and chaco of Paraguay, Uruguay (Departments of Maldonado and Rocha) and Argentina. Australia (se. Western Australia, New South Wales and Victoria).
