C. to ne. Palearctic and n. Nearctic;
C. and e. Siberia from the Taimyr Peninsula to arctic Alaska from Wales and Point Barrow e. to n. Yukon, n. Mackenzie, Banks Is., Victoria Is., Bathurst Is., Devon Is., n. Baffin Is., Southampton Is. to nw. Greenland s. to w. Alaska at Goodnews Bay, c. Mackenzie, se. Keewatin and s. coast of Hudson Bay to Cape Henrietta Maria.
Winters in s. South America (s. Bahia, Brazil and Banados del Este, Uruguay), Australia (Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia), Tasmania and New Zealand.

Winters in Australia (n. Western Australia, ne. Queensland, ex. ne. and s. New South Wales (Lake Bathurst and Sidney area), s. Victoria and se. South Australia) and Hawaiian Islands.
