Two populations;
(1) Nw. United States in e. Oregon and Idaho and sc. Canada in c. Alberta, s. Saskatchewan and sw. Manitoba s. to ne. and ec. California, w. Nevada, c. Utah, n. Colorado, w. and n. Nebraska and e. South Dakota.
Formerly breed in Iowa, w. and se. Minnesota.
Winters s. to the Galapagos, Peru, n. Chile and s. Brazil (e. Bahia).
(2) Atlantic coasts of e. Canada from s. New Brunswick, Prince Edward Is., w. Newfoundland and Nova Scotia and e. United States to s. Florida and s. Texas. West Indies (Bahamas,Cuba, Beata Is. off Hispaniola, Puerto Rico?, Virgin Is. (Anegada and St. Croix), Grand Cayman Is., Los Roques Is. off Venezuela). Possibly in the n. Lesser Antilles.
