N. Palearctic and w. Alaska;
Fragmented distribution;
(1) N. Europe in n. Scandinavia across n. Russia to n. Asia.
Winters in tropical Africa and n. India.
(2) N. Siberia mostly n. of the Arctic Circle between the Khatanga River and Kolyma River Deltas.
Winters in se. Asia to nw. and possibly e. Australia.
(3) Ne. Siberia, e. of Kolyma River Delta to n. Anadyrland to w. Alaska from Cape Prince of Wales e. to Point Barrow and s. to the Yukon Delta.
Winters in the Pacific Is., Taiwan and Australia from n. Western Australia, n. and e. Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria to c. South Australia and Tasmania.
