Range

Ne. n. South America; N. South America through w. Amazonia and c. South America returning to e. South America;
Two populations;
(1) Isolated population in ne. Venezuela (Sucre and Monagas), and formerly? in nw. Guyana along the Rio Aremu.
(2) Main population in a band from w. Venezuela (w. of Distrito Federal (Puerto de la Cruz) w. to Zulia and s. to sw. Tachira) through c. Colombia (Pacific coast in sw. Cauca (Guapi) in the upper Cauca Valley above Cali, at least formerly, Sierra de Perija, upper Cesar Valley (Fonseca), San Antonio Valle and from Arauca s. in Meta to the Macarena Mountains).
(3) C. and ne. Brazil s. of the Rios Madeira and Amazon extending into gallery forests in the Cerrado, Rio Guapore (Vila Bela de Mato Grosso), Tangara da Serra to Rio Pindaiba and upper Rio das Garcas, e. to the upper Rio Xingu in n. Mato Grosso, locally along tributaries of the Rio Araguaia, w. Goias, Rio Jurupi, n. Gois, and Rio Capim near Belem, e. Para. Intergrades with (4) near the borders of Peru and Bolivia.
(4) E. of the Andes in sc. Colombia to e. Ecuador (Napo Pastaza), e. Peru (San Martin s. through Junin to Cuzco) and e. Bolivia (Pando, Beni, n. La Paz, n. Cochabamba, n. Santa Cruz). Intergrades with (2) in sw. Colombia and with (3) in w. Brazil.
