Fragmented distribution;
(1) S. Palearctic from Portugal and Spain (Guadalquivir Marshes) through s. France, Italy, Hungary (Apaj Puszta, Kiskunsag National Park) and Romania s. in the Mediterranean region, Sicily, Cyprus, and Crete and the Black Sea area (Poda Lagoon on the coast of Bulgaria and the Menderes Delta of Turkey), ne. Israel (Hula Nature Reserve), and n. Africa in n. Morocco, n. and c. Tunisia and n. Egypt e. through the n. Black Sea area and nw. Caspian Sea area, Transcaucasus e. to Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Turkestan, Pakistan (Sind) and nw. India.
Winters in sub-Saharan Africa s. from 5°N.
(2) Coastal plains of s. Somalia, and n. Kenya and possibly w. Arabia.
