Java e. to w. Papuan Is. (Misool), New Guinea, D'Entercasteaux Archipelago (Fegusson Is.), Louisiade Archipelago (Misima Is.), Bismarck Archipelago, Australia (sw. to n. Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria to c. South Australia)(Coombabah) and New Zealand (North Island and South Island).
Winters from the Greater Sundas and Sulawesi n. to the Philippines.
