Range

Europe to wc. Asia. Asia Minor;
Two populations including a large main population and single small isolated population;
British Isles and Spain e. in s. Scandinavia, France (Finistere (Ile d'Ouessant)), Netherlands (Schiedam) to the n. Mediterranean (Italy) probably in n. Greece, and Balkans to w. and c. Russia, the Caucasus, Kazakhstan, sw. Siberia (Suva) and nw. China (w. Xinjiang). Isolated population in s. Iran.
Winters from Mediterranean region and w. Middle East s. locally in w. Africa (w. c. and se. Kenya, Lake Turkana) and in e. Africa from Ethiopia s. to South Africa and w. to Angola and Namibia. Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Burma possibly Thailand. Irregularly in the sw. Caspian Sea region.
