Range

S. Central America and tropical South America;
Highly fragmented distribution;
(1) E. Colombia from Boyaca (Lagos de Fuenque and Lagos de Tota) s. to Cundinamarca (Sabana de Bogota), w. Meta (Villavicencio) and Vaupes (Mitu), Venezuela (Merida, Portuguesa and Carabobo e. to Miranda and Monagas and e. Amazonas and Bolivar), Guyana, Surinam and Guiana through Brazil (n. and w. Para, e. Amazonas, Paraiba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Bahia, e. Minas Gerais (Belo Horizonte), Espirito Santo, Sao Paulo, sw. and ne. Mato Grosso and formerly? in Rondonia) to n. and e. Bolivia (La Paz and Santa Cruz, recently recorded in Pando, Beni, and Chuquisaca, but race is unclear), Paraguay and nw. Argentina (Salta, Jujuy, Tucuman, and Chaco). Also locally in s. Central America in nc. Costa Rica (Rio Frio (Sarapiqui lowlands), and Osa Peninsula in Corcovado National Park) and Panama on the Caribbean slope of Bocas del Toro and Tocumen marsh). Recently recorded in sw. Ecuador (Manabi, Guayas, and s. Loja).
(2) Coastal n. Peru from Lambayeque s. to Lima and the Galapagos Is. (Santa Cruz, Santa Maria and possibly on San Cristobal and Isabela).
