Range

Lesser Sundas, Australia and Tasmania;
Fragmented island populations;
(1) Lesser Sundas from Lombok to Timor.
(2) Arid regions of n. Australia from w. Western Australia and Northern Territory to se. South Australia to w. Queensland and nw. New South Wales.
(3) Sw. and se. Australia e. from ex. se. South Australia, Victoria, s. and c. New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory (Kelly's Swamp during the summer), c. Queensland and Tasmania.
Races (2) and (3) winter n. in New Guinea, the Bismarck Archipelago (New Britain), Moluccas and may breed in the Lesser Sundas.
