Range

N. South America; Sc. tropical South America;
Two breeding populations;
Sw. and e. Colombia from Valle and Arauca to s. Meta, n. and e. Venezuela from Zulia to Carabobo, Aragua, Monagas and in Anzoategui and Delta Amacuro, Trinidad, Tobago, Guyana, Surinam, Guiana and ne. Brazil (Para, Maranhao). S. Brazil (Para, Maranhao, Bahia (Ilheus), Mato Grosso e. and s. to Rio Grande do Sul), n. and e. Bolivia (Beni and Santa Cruz), Paraguay, Uruguay s. to s. Argentina (Tierra del Fuego) and c. Chile (Aconcagua to Colchagua).
Birds in n. South America may all be migrants. However, breeding has been established in Trinidad.
