Mediterranean basin in Portugal in the Raira Baixa Region along the upper Rio Tejo, Spain (Cabaneros), Balearic Is., sc. . France (Grands Causses, Gorges de la Jonte, Gorges du Tarn and parts of the Tarn Valley), s. Yugoslavia, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, European Russia, Crimea, Ukraine, Georgia, Turkey, Armenia, Caucasus, Iran, Azerbeijan n. to Kazakhstan, Nurata Mountains, Uzbekistan, sw. Siberia (Altai), Mongolia and n. China (w. Xinjiang, Qinghai, Gansu, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Hebei and sw. Heilongjiang) s. in Tibet, Pakistan (Baluchistan) and n. India (Himalayas of Gilgit, Punjab and Assam).
Winters s. to nw. and ne. Africa, Arabia, c. India, se. China, Taiwan and Ryukyu Is. Formerly occurred in n. Morocco, Italy, Sardinia, Sicily, Albania, Moldavia and Israel.
