Range

Africa s. of the Sahara;
(1) S. Mauritania, Senegambia, Guinea, s. Mali, Burkina Faso, s. Niger, n. Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Sudan.
(2) E. Sudan and Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya (most national parks and game preserves and w. and lower Tana River) to Angola, ne. Namibia, ne. Botswana and e. South Africa (e. Transvaal, Orange River, n. Natal and Cape Province).
