Range
E. Europe;
C., e. and se. Europe from the Gulf of Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, w. Russia, e. Germany, Poland on the Poland-Belarus border (Biatowieza Forest and Biebrza Marsh), Slovakia (Carpathians), Hungary (Hortobagy National Park and Zemplen), Byelorussia, Ukraine, Georgia, the former Yugoslavia and Greece through Turkey (Anatolia) to the Balkans, the Caucasus, Transcaucasus and in the se. Caspian lowlands (Azerbaijan and n. Iran). E. limit of range not well known. Migrates through Syria, Lebanon and Jordan (Zubiya Wildlife Reserve, Jerash).
Winters in s. in se. Europe and Asia Minor and perhaps e. Africa (Sudan, Kenya).
