Range

W. and s. South America;
(1) Andes of nw. Colombia (c. Andes n. to Quindio where it may be a migrant) and Ecuador, Peru to c. and s. Bolivia (La Paz, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, Oruro, Tarija), Chile s. to Cape Horn, s. Argentina (Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego) and the Falkland Is.
Migrates n. during winter to subtropical lowlands of n. and e. Argentina, Paraguay, s. Brazil and perhaps Uruguay.
(2) Juan Fernandez Is. (Masafuera Is.).
