Range

Se. Europe to ex. w. Asia;
Fragmented distribution;
S. Europe (former Yugoslavia, Greece, Bulgaria and n. Romania, sw. Ukraine and s. Russia to the Volga River) e. locally in w. and c. Turkey, w. and sw. Iran in the Caucasus and Transcaucasus to w. Kazakhstan.
Concentrations of migrants occur over the Bosporus, e. Black Sea (Don River Basin) and Israel during late April and September. Probably crosses into Africa at the Gulf of Suez.
Winters in ne. Africa (Egypt), Arabia and Africa s. of the Sahara in the e. Sahel zone. Winter range in Africa is not well known.
