Wintering s. to c. South America (Brazil, Bahia at Chapada Diamantina, Curaca, Itaparica, and Mangue Seco).
(2) West Indies (Bahamas, small cays of Cuba and the Virgin Is.), e. Mexico along the coasts and islands off Yucatan, e. Belize (Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary) and Guatemala.
(3) Europe in n. British Isles e. across n. Scandinavia, nw. and c. Russia to c. Siberia and the Kamchatka Peninsula s. to e. Germany (Hessen in the Kellerwald at Lake Eder), the Black Sea, Caspian Sea, Aral Sea, Kazakhstan, n. Iran, n. India to China, Hainan Is., Taiwan and Japan. Locally in the Cape Verde Is., Spain, Portugal, Balearic Is., Corsica, n. Morocco, n. Algeria and Red Sea area (Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia and Yemen) and Socotra Is. Migrant at Hortobagy National Park, Hungary.
Wintering s. to South Africa, India and the Sundas.
