Range

Solomon Is.; W. Australia; E. Australia;
Three populations;
(1) Formerly a single lagoon on Rennell Is. in the Solomon Is.
(2) S. Moluccas (Ambon Is.), Kai Is., Aru Is. New Guinea, Australia (Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales in the Murray-Darling Basin, Victoria, King Is., Furneaux Is., Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia), New Caledonia and New Zealand (Kaipara, Oreti gravel pits, Lake Tekapo, Rotorua and Wairarapa Districts, North Island and South Island). Recently established on Great Duck Lake, Efate, Vanuatu and possibly Tanna Is.
Vagrant to Lord Howe Is. Macquarie Is., and the Moluccas and possibly the Greater Sundas.
