Breeds between 10°S. and 38°S. in the Andes from s. Peru (n. to Ancash and Junin), w. Bolivia (La Paz, Cochabamba, Oruro, Potosi) s. to c. Chile (Arica, Tarapaca, Antofagasta, Atacama, Coquimbo, Aconcagua, Santiago, Nuble) and nw. Argentina (Jujuy, Salta, Catamarca, Tucuman, Mendoza).
