China, se. Siberia (Kamchatka and Sakhalin Is.) and n. Japan (Hokkaido). Sporadically or formerly further s.
Winters s. in Mediterranean Basin (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt in the lower Nile Valley), Turkey, Black Sea, Iraq, Iran, Caspian Sea to n. Africa (Egypt), and s. of the Sahara in Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, n. Ivory Coast, n. Ghana, n. Togo, n. Benin, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, n. Nigeria to Lake Chad. Sudan, Ethiopia, w.
