Three populations;
(1) Two separate populations: coastal sw. Western Australia from Esperance Bay to Nw. Cape and inland along the Gascoyne River drainage, then in se. and e. Australia from s. Cape York Peninsula (Cairns) s. in c. and e. Queensland, New South Wales (Murray-Darling River Basin, Macquarie Marshes, confluence of the Murrumbidgee and Lachlan Rivers, Paroo River, Cuttaburra Channels), Victoria, e. South Australia (Lachlan-Murray River to the Flewrien River, Dune Lake) w. to the Eyre Peninsula and Tasmania.
(2) New Zealand.
Formerly occurred on Chatham Is.
