Andes of sw. Peru (Arequipa), n. Chile (Parinacota marshes, Laguna Santa Rosa, and Lake Atacama in Tarapaca, Antofagasta s. to Lake Maricunga in Atacama), sw. Bolivia (Lake Coipasa in Oruro, Lake Uyuni in Potosi), nw. Argentina in Jujuy (Laguna de los Pozuelos), Salta, Catamarca and Tucuman.
Disperses to Cordoba and Santa Fe in the winter.
