Fragmented Distribution;
Three African populations: sw. Mauritania (Aftout-es-saheli), Senegambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, se. Niger, Nigeria, ex. nw. Cameroon (Lake Chad), wc. Chad. The Red Sea coast of South Yemen, c. Ethiopia through the Rift Valley (soda lakes from Manyara north to Turkana, breeds regularly on Lake Natron), Eritrea and Djibouti to ex. se. Sudan, w. Kenya, c. and sw. Tanzania (Lake Natron), sw. Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, ne. Zaire, n. Zambia, ex. s. Malawi, c. and s. Mozambique, Zimbabwe, sw. and se. Angola, n. and e. Botswana, cn. Namibia (Etosha Pan, Walvis Bay), South Africa (Strandfontein, Western Cape) and Madagascar (Lake Bemamba). The Asian population is localized to se. Pakistan (Sind, s. Badin) and w. India (Sambhar Lake in Rajasthan and the Little Rann of Kutch e. to the Ganges plain in Gujarat and Orissa).
