Range
Java to s. New Guinea, n. and e. Australia, New Zealand and the Solomon Is.
Fragmented distribution;
W. Java, Bali, Lesser Sundas, Sulawesi, Moluccas, s. New Guinea (Trans-Fly and Port Moresby), Australia (sw. (rare) and n. Western Australia, n. and e. Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria to e. South Australia), Tasmania. Established in s. New Zealand on South Island in the White Heron Sanctuary near Okarito, estuaries near Nelson and Farewell Spit, and on North Island from Parengarenga to Paterson Inlet, Manawatu Estuary). Regularly observed on New Caledonia since 1970. Solomon Is. (Rennell Is.).
