Two populations;
(1) Aldabra.
(2) Coastal w. Madagascar.
(3) Se. Iraq (s. Amara to Fao) and adjacent Iran, s. Mauritania, Senegambia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, c. Mali, c. Niger, Ivory Coast, Upper Volta, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, s. Chad, Central African Republic, n. Sudan including most of the Nile River Valley, Ethiopia, w. Somalia, Kenya (breeds annually near Kisumu, Garsen and Lake Turkana), Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Zaire, Congo, Gabon, Angola, n. and s. Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, n., e., and s. South Africa. Introduced to Taiwan.
