Tropical e. Africa;
S. Sudan (Aweil area e. to the Sudd region of the White Nile), ex. w. Ethiopia (Baro-Akobo swamps, Gombela district), Uganda (c. swamplands, Mabamba Swamp, Rift Valley lakes, Murchison Falls National Park, Lake Kyoga, Lake Victoria, Nile basin), sw. Kenya, e. Rwanda (Kagera basin, Akagera National Park), e. Burundi, w. Tanzania (w. of Lake Victoria s. to Lake Tanganyika), se. Zaire (Katanga), nw. Zambia (Bangweulu and Kafue floodplains). Isolated records from ne. Cameroon, nc. Central African Republic (c. basin), ne. Nigeria (Lake Chad).
