Mauritania, Senegambia, Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Congo, nw. and se. Angola, s. Chad, Central African Republic, s. Sudan, c. Ethiopia, s. Somalia, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, n. Tanzania, se. Zaire, Zambia, Malawi, s. Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, c. Namibia and e. South Africa (w. Natal, Transvaal). Ranges widely throughout Africa.
