Range

E. North America;
C. to ce. United States in se. South Dakota, se. Nebraska, n. Iowa, c. and se. Minnesota, s. Wisconsin, s. Michigan, sc. Canada (s. Ontario and sw. Quebec), concentrated in the Ohio River basin from sw. Pennsylvania, Ohio Hills of West Virginia and s. Ohio, to w. and se. New York, c. New England s. to nc. Texas, c. Gulf States, and c. North Carolina.
Winters s. from Colombia to Ecuador (Mindo-Nambillo Forest), Peru and Bolivia. A disjunct winter population exists in nw. Venezuela.
