Nw. and n. Iran and n. Afghanistan to sw. Siberia (Altai Mountains) and Japan. A sporadic and nomadic breeder w. to e. Europe (the former Yugoslavia and Hungary, c. and s. Russia n. to Ukraine and the middle Volga River s. to c. Turkey).
Winters in s. in the Ryukyus, the Philippines and Borneo w. to India and Sri Lanka.
