Range
Coasts of s. South America in the e. Pacific Ocean and w. Atlantic Ocean;
(1) Breeds in s. Chile from the Mocha Is. (37°S) off Arauco s. to the Straits of Magellan and is. of the Beagle Channel to Cape Horn Archipelago, Tierra del Fuego (coastal and lakes), Staten Is., s. Argentina (n. locally in Santa Cruz and Chubut to Point Tombo and Rio Santa Cruz and inland lakes: Lago Nahuel Huapi on Isla Victoria, Neuquen, Lago Vinter, Chubut and Rio Negro).
Disperses n. in Argentina to Buenos Aires with vagrants as far n. as s. Uruguay. Scotia Arc (South Orkney Is., South Shetland Is. and South Sandwich Is.) and Antarctica (Antarctic Archipelago and Antarctic Peninsula).
