Range

C. e. Pacific Ocean;
(1) Breeds on is. along the Pacific coast of Mexico (Baja, Revillagigedo, Isabela, Tres Marietas and Tres Marias Is. to Nayarit) and in the Gulf of California (Consag Rock, George Is.), Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras (Los Farallones), Nicaragua, Costa Rica (Gulf of Nicoya, Isla Guayabo), Panama (Gulf of Panama, Pearl Is.), Colombia (Gorgonilla Is.), Ecuador to n. Peru.
In irruption years, it disperses as far n. as the sw. United States (Salton Sea, California and the lower Colorado River, Arizona) and s. Peru.
(2) Galapagos Is.

North America n. of Mexican border
Late summer and fall (sometimes remains until early winter): irregularly to s. CAL (Salton Sea and less frequently the Pacific coast) and sw. ARZ (lower Colorado River). These bird are mostly immatures.
