Fragmented Distribution;
Breeds in Yugoslavia (Lake Skadar), Albania (Lake Malik, Karavastas Lagoon), Greece (Lake Mikra Prespa, near Prewesa, Small Prespa Lake and estuary of Nestos River), Romania (Danube Delta arrives in March and departs in August), w. and s. Turkey (Menderes Delta, Eregli Marshes), se. Iraq, s. Iran, Russia (n. Black Sea, Sea of Azov, n. Caspian in the Volga Delta), lower Amu River, Aral Sea, islands in Lake Balkhash and Ile River Delta, s. Kazakhstan (Lake Alakol, Lake Sasakol in Tentek River Delta, lower Syr Darya River), w. China (Sinkiang, Tarim Basin, Lop Nor and formerly in Hopeh), w. Mongolia (Orog Nor).
Disperses to Egypt (Nile Delta and n. Gulf of Suez), Greece (estuaries of the Acheloos River and Evinos River), Bulgaria (Poda Lagoon on Black Sea coast), Turkey, Israel, Iraq, Iran (s. Caspian Sea s. to Arabian Gulf), Pakistan (n. Hindustan, Thatta District), n. India (s. to n. Gujarat, Orissa and Assam, primarily on the Indus and Ganges Rivers), Bangladesh, e. China (e. Shantung, Kiangsu, Chekiang, Fukien, Kwangtung and Mai Po Marsh, Hong Kong).
