W. Europe to c. Asia and ne. Africa;
Fragmented distribution;
(1) Europe from s. British Isles, and s. Scandinavia e. across c. Russia (Apaj Puszta, Kiskunsag National Park, Hungary) to w. Russia s. to the Mediterranean region to Turkey, nw. Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, n. Libya and ne. Egypt.
Winters s. to wc. and e. Africa.
(2) Asia Minor in s. Russia, Iran, and the Kirghiz steppes and Lake Zaysan. Probably also in w. China (w. Sinkiang).
Winters in e. Africa.
(3) Mangroves along the coasts of Red Sea and Gulf of Aden in Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia and sw. Arabia (Saudi Arabia and Yemen).
