Europe to c. Asia;
(1) Outer Hebrides and the Isle of Skye.
(2) British Isles and Scandinavia and w. Europe in s. to n. Spain and n. Mediterranean region including Corsica, Sicily, the Balkans.
Introduced to se. Australia (s. Victoria) and New Zealand.
(3) C. and e. Europe in Russia and w. Siberia to Lake Baikal and the Sayan Mountains then s. to n. Turkey, s. Russia to the Black Sea and Caucasus.
Winters in s. Europe, n. Africa, Arabia and Iran.
Introduced to se. Australia and New Zealand.
(4) C. Asia in n. Iran and ex. w. China (w. Sinkiang).
