Most of Africa s. of the Sahara;
Four populations;
(1) Senegambia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, s. Mali, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, sw. Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, s. Sudan, nw. and e. Kenya, and s. in Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Congo, Zaire, Angola, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, s. Namibia, n. and e. Botswana, Mozambique, and e. South Africa (s. to Eastern Cape). Lower Nile valley s. from s. Egypt. Locally in n. and e. Sudan, w. Eritrea, nw., ne. and s. Ethiopia, and s. Somalia.
(2) South Africa (Orange River, nw. Cape Province).
