Two fragmented major populations;
(1)(4) Europe in the British Isles, locally in s. Scandinavia s. through w. Europe to Poland and w. Ukraine s. to Spain and Portugal and islands in the Mediterranean, Azores, nw. Africa (Morocco, n. Algeria), Turkey and the Caucasus, n. and sw. Iran.
(2) N. Asia e. from the Ural Mountains to the c. coast of the Sea of Okhotsk, s. to Mongolia and e. China (s. to s. Gansu, s. Shaanxi, and hebei). Mountains s. from Tien Shan s. to e. Afthanistan, and e. along the Himalayas in n. Pakistan, n. India (Kashmir) to c. Nepal.
Winters ne. Africa, s. and se. Asia.
(3) Ex. E. Asia from s. and c. Kamchatka and Amurland s. to Korea, Sahkalin Is., Kuril Is., and Japan.
