Range

Tropical South America;
Two main populations with small isolated populations in the s. part of its range;
Along the n. and s. tributaries of the Amazon, but not the Amazon itself from se. Colombia (e. Vichada, e. Guainia, e. Vaupes), s. and e. Venezuela (Amazonas, Bolivar, Delta Amecuro), Guyana, Surinam, Guiana, and n. Amazonian Brazil. S. Amazonian Brazil to n. Mato Grosso and along drainages of the Rio Madeira, Rio Tapajos, Rio Xingu, and Rio Tocantins. Isolated records from c. and s. Brazil (se. Bahia, upper Rio Parana in s. Goias) and Brazil and ne. Argentina border (Misiones at Iguazu Falls).
