Range

N. Atlantic Ocean; S. Atlantic Ocean between 30° and 50°S; N. and e. Indian Ocean to the sw. Pacific Ocean and ce. Pacific Ocean;
Apparently three populations;
(1) Salvage and Canary(?) Is. (Selvagens Is. including Great Salvage, Pitao Is.).
(2) Cape Verde Is. (Branco, Cima).
(3) Tristan da Cunha, Gough, Nightingale and Inaccessible Is.
(4) Western Australia (Houtman Abrolhos Is.), South Australia (Spencer Gulf), Victoria (Mud and Fort Is. in Port Phillip Bay, Portland) to New South Wales (Bass Strait, Broughton Is., Wollongong) and Tasmania.
(5) New Zealand from Three Kings to North and South Islands, Stewart, Auckland and Chatham Is.
(6) Kermadec Is. (Herald, Raoul Is.). Formerly bred on Lord Howe Is. in the sw. Pacific Ocean and St. Helena and Amsterdam Is. in the s. Indian Ocean.
Disperses in s. Oceans to Brazil (Bahia), Argentina (Patagonia and Mar del Plata) and s. Uruguay, e. coast of the United States, Portugal, s. Morocco (Atlantic Ocean, summer), Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Canary Is. s. to Liberia and from Kenya, Somalia to the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea off se. Arabia and Oman (May to July) and the n. Indian Ocean from Pakistan and w. India to s. Sumatra, Java and in the Pacific Ocean in Kiribati (Line Is.), Cocos Is. (July to August), Ecuador and the South Equatorial Current w. of the Galapagos Is.
