Nw. to nc. Pacific Ocean;
Breeds in the w. and c. Pacific Ocean on the Volcano Is. (Kita Iwo Jima), Izu Is. (Tori Shima), Bonin Is. and the nw. Hawaiian Is. (Kure and Midway Is., Pearl and Hermes Reefs, Laysan, French Frigate Shoals (Whale-skate Is.), Neckers and Nihoa Is.).
Limited dispersal off the Pacific coast of Honshu, Japan n. of its breeding is., Bonin Is. and e. at least to Kauai.
