Range

W. Pacific Ocean off Japan; C. and e. Pacific Ocean from the Hawaiian Is. to the Galapagos; E. Atlantic off Europe and Africa;
Three populations;
W. Pacific on is. off n. Honshu, Japan (Hide Shima and Sangan Shima). C. and e. Pacific in the Hawaiian Is. (Kauai and possibly Maui) and Galapagos Is. where two populations nest six months out of phase with each other (Isabela, James, Santa Cruz, Floreana, Hood, San Cristobal and Tower). In the e. Atlantic in the Cape Verde Is., Salvage (Selvagens) Is., Ascension, St. Helena, Madeira, Canary Is. (Tenerife, Lanzarote), Berlengas and Farilhoes Is. off c. Portugal, Azores (?) and Sao Tome (?).
Disperses to the Marshall and Phoenix (Kiribati) Is., w. Costa Rica (Gulf of Nicoya), Cocos Is., Colombia (Narino), Ecuador, se. United States (Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts), Brazil (Rio de Janeiro), British Isles, ne. Africa (s. Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast to e. Ghana and the Gulf of Guinea (Sao Tome, February-July)) and possibly the Gulf of Aqaba.
