Range

Ce. Pacific Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and cw. Atlantic Ocean; Cw. Pacific Ocean; W. Indian Ocean;
Three apparently separate breeding populations;
(1) the West Indies (Bahamas, Puerto Rico on Mona Is. and Cayo del Agua off Culebra, Lesser Antilles from the Virgin Is. to n. of Tobago). Formerly bred on Bermuda.
(2) Is. off e. Costa Rica, e. Panama (Tiger Rock off Bocas del Toro), ne. Colombia, n. Venezuela (Los Roques, La Orchila, Los Hermanos), Curacao, Tobago, Bonaire and Trinidad to Guyana.
Disperses to the se. United States in the Gulf Stream to ca. 40°N in late summer.
(3) Galapagos Is. Disperses to Ecuador, w. Colombia, w. Nicaragua (Crab Cay off Isla Providencia), El Salvador, w. Guatemala and sw. Mexico.
(4) Samoa, Society, Tuamotu (Gambier), Marquesas, Kiribati (Kiritimati, Phoenix), Christmas, Fiji and Tonga Is.
(5) New Caledonia, Banks (Mere Lava), Vanuatu (Efate, Tanna, Ambae Is.), Solomon, Palau, Mariana and Caroline Is.
(6) Iwo Jima (Volcano Is.) and Bonin Is.
Range at sea unknown, but seems to disperse around the breeding is. and to the Ogasawara (Bonin) Is.
(7) Mascarene Is. (Mauritius, Reunion and Rodriguez Is.).
(8) Is. off se Arabia (Oman), Aldabra, Amirante, Chagos(?), Seychelles and Maldives.
(9) Comoro Is. (Moheli Is.).
Dispersal patterns are largely unknown, but does occur in tropical oceans off c. Mexico to Colombia in the e. Pacific, ce. United States s. to s. Africa in the Mozambique Channel off se. Africa n. to Natal, South Africa and off se. Arabia (s. Oman) to India, New Guinea and n. Australia .
